GST Invoice Generator

Create a proper GST tax invoice in a couple of minutes. Enter your business and customer details and the items; CGST and SGST, or IGST, are worked out from the two states, the total is written in words, and you download a clean A4 PDF. No sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your device.

How to use this tool

  1. Fill in your business name, address, GSTIN and state. Tick Remember to keep them for next time.
  2. Add the customer's name and address. If they are GST-registered, enter their GSTIN and the state fills in automatically.
  3. Add each item with its HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate and GST rate. The totals update as you type.
  4. Check the invoice number and date, add bank or UPI details if you like, and tap Download invoice PDF.

Formula

Taxable value × GST rate: split equally into CGST + SGST in the same state, or charged as IGST between states

Taxable value
quantity × rate for each item
CGST, SGST
half the GST rate each, when the place of supply is your own state
IGST
the full GST rate, when the place of supply is another state

Tax is worked out on each line and rounded to the paisa; the total can be rounded to the nearest rupee, shown as a round-off line.

Worked example

A Mumbai design studio bills a Bengaluru client ₹25,000 for logo design at 18% GST.

  1. StatesMaharashtra (27) → Karnataka (29): different, so IGST
  2. IGST25,000 × 18% = ₹4,500
  3. Total25,000 + 4,500 = ₹29,500

A tax invoice for ₹29,500, Rupees Twenty Nine Thousand Five Hundred Only. For a client in Mumbai it would show CGST ₹2,250 and SGST ₹2,250 instead.

CGST and SGST or IGST: which one applies?

It depends on where the supply happens. When your state and the place of supply are the same, the GST is split equally between central and state tax: 18% becomes CGST 9% plus SGST 9%. When they are different states, the whole rate is charged as IGST.

The generator decides this from your state and the customer's place of supply, so you never pick the wrong tax type by hand. For goods, the place of supply is usually where the goods are delivered; for most services to a registered business, it is the customer's registered state.

What a GST tax invoice must show

Under the GST rules, a tax invoice carries these details, and this generator includes each of them:

  • Your name, address and GSTIN
  • A unique invoice number of up to 16 characters, using letters, numbers, - or /, in sequence for the financial year
  • The invoice date
  • The customer's name and address, and their GSTIN if they are registered
  • Each item's description, HSN or SAC code, quantity, unit and taxable value
  • The GST rate and the CGST, SGST or IGST amount
  • The place of supply with the state name, and the total
  • A signature or digital signature of the supplier or an authorised person

Choosing the GST rate

Since the GST rate changes of 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall in the 5% or 18% slabs, with 40% for a small list of luxury and sin goods and 3% for gold and jewellery. A few items keep other rates. The correct rate depends on your HSN or SAC code, so check it on the GST rate schedule rather than guessing. The GST calculator is useful for checking a single amount.

Not registered for GST, or on the composition scheme?

If you are not registered for GST, you cannot charge it. Turn off Charge GST and the document becomes a plain invoice with no tax lines. Businesses under the composition scheme cannot collect GST from customers either; they issue a bill of supply instead, which you can choose when GST is turned off.

Getting paid faster

Add your bank account and UPI ID so the customer has everything in one place. For quick payments, make a fixed-amount payment QR with the UPI QR Code Generator using the invoice total, and send it with the PDF. Sending several invoices together? Combine them with Merge PDF.

Things to keep in mind

  • The invoice is created in your browser. Customer details are never stored; your own business details are saved on this device only if you choose to.
  • Businesses above the e-invoicing turnover limit must also report their B2B invoices to the government's Invoice Registration Portal to get an IRN. This generator is for businesses below that limit.
  • This tool helps you prepare an invoice; it is not tax advice. Check rates and rules with your accountant if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this GST invoice format valid?

It includes the details the GST rules require for a tax invoice: your GSTIN, a unique invoice number, date, customer details, HSN/SAC codes, taxable value, tax rate and amount, place of supply and a signatory line. Sign it before sending, and keep a copy for your records.

When do I charge IGST instead of CGST and SGST?

When the place of supply is in a different state from your registration. Within the same state, the rate is split into CGST and SGST. The generator chooses automatically from the two states you enter.

Can I make an invoice without a GSTIN?

Yes. Turn off Charge GST to create a plain invoice without tax. You can only charge GST if you are registered and print your GSTIN on the invoice.

How should I number my invoices?

Use a unique, consecutive series for each financial year, up to 16 characters, such as INV-001 or 2026-27/001. After each download, the generator suggests the next number automatically.
